Last week I watched the PBS special "An American Love Story". I found myself drawn to it because it dealt with a part of life I didn't get to live (I was adopted by White parents), and I thought of this subject and knew I had to comment. I was drawn to it because I wanted to see what their life was like, if it was much different than mine. The part the show seemed to focuse on was of the oldest daughter, I believe her name was Cicily. Anyway, they spent a lot of time focusing on her, as if she were the research subject. While I could relate to a lot of things she was going through, I realized that she became the focus of the topic. It was supposed to be about the White and Black relationship of Karen and Bill. At the end of the show, the wife made the comment, "See, we're just regular people." I wondered if those who are not in an interracial relationship or bi-racial, tuned in to see if they were normal or not.

I think that what society fears is what it does not know, therefore, I feel that any and all research/education is what our society needs in order to get past alot of age old beliefs that are unfounded and untrue. Educating yourself and others is a good thing!

Sometimes it seems as if we are being examined - like a biological mutation or a psychiatrist's patient - as something abnormal. But we are not abnormal - we are all over the world in HUGE numbers.
