Christian Louboutin

French designer, Christian Louboutin, reacquainted the fashion world with the sexiest shoe, the stiletto. Louboutin’s inspiration dates back to his boyhood, when he frequently cut class to watch the French showgirls. He was fascinated by their elaborate costumes, and especially their high heeled shoes drawing attention to their legs. A great heel turns the attention to a woman’s legs, Louboutin explains. Soon after, he took his leave of conventional education to whole heartedly pursue his shoe designing dreams. It wasn’t until the 1990’s his shoe creations really turned heads. Just as the average model should be 5’9”, the average heel height of a Christian Louboutin shoe should be at least 4 ½ inches. Whether ankle strapped, peep toed, patent leather, suede, or satin- Louboutin’s footwear have a signature red sole. This risky design choice paid off, but like many came about almost on accident. “I felt that my shoes lacked energy,” Louboutin explains. “So I applied red nail polish to the sole of the shoe. That was such a success that it became a permanent fixture.” Though Louboutin’s designs draw from a varied palate of materials, colors, and styles, his shoes are always sexy and daring. He remembers seeing a sign at a Paris museum forbidding women to wear high heels in case their footwear damage the wood flooring. Christian Louboutin took this restriction and turned it into creative fuel. “I wanted to create something that broke rules and make women feel confident and empowered,” he says. Life’s a catwalk, so. Choose a pair of Christian Louboutin heels, and get strutting.
